2018 Chasse-Spleen (Moulis)

Media Reviews

Jane Anson

Chasse Spleen continues as the modern, vibrant face of Moulis, with lovely violet edging to the colour. The oak seems higher here than in its peers, accompanied by strong aromatics of damson and vanilla bean. Some rosemary hints come in after a few minutes in the glass. It`s good quality and made in the estate`s signature, with the freshness helping to balance the oak flourish. Clear spicing runs through the finish. Drink 2024 - 2036. 92 points

Polished and fun on the nose though a little lean on the palate. Quite brisk, dry and testing though certainly classical. 16 points

Antonio Galloni

The 2018 Chasse-Spleen is especially dense and fruity in this vintage. Dense red cherry fruit, espresso, mint, dried flower and licorice are all generously rendered in this gorgeous, incredibly delicious Moulis. More than anything else, Chasse-Spleen has a gorgeous sense of immediacy and pure pleasure. 89-91 points

This is a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The yield was just 19 hl/ha, and the alcohol a modest 13.5%. It has a fresh and crunchy style of fruit, rather pretty, with blackcurrant, red cherry and a touch of bay leaf on the nose. The palate continues in this more delicate style, with macerated red cherries, chalk dust, a little wrapping of praline and vanillin oak too, ensconced within a medium bodied texture and supported by a loose bed of lightly chalky tannins bring a touch of grip to the length. Attractive, but lighter, cooler and fresher than some. The élevage will be in 40% new oak and 60% second-fill oak. 91-93 points
