2018 Berthaut-Gerbet Fixin Les Crais

Secondary Description
A lieu-dit Fixin from a pretty little vineyard directly below the village. Like many wines at this domaine, the fruit character seems to span the red and black fruit spectrum; I found raspberry, redcurrant, blackberry and orange here. Silky and complex with a nice acid-driven finish. (NT 09/01/20)

Jasper Morris MW

Grown on alluvial soil with 20% new wood and 20% whole bunch fermentation. Dense rich fruit, sweet blackberry yet with fresher red fruit behind. This has certainly soaked up the sun but without defect and the tannins have ripened, super succulent finish, really gorgeous. 90-92 points

The 2018 Fixin Les Crais sees around 20% new oak. It has a lovely bouquet of dark cherry, black currant and violet aromas, the 20% whole cluster nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite good structure and fine acidity. Much more dense on the finish compared to the Fixin Village. 89-91 points

Allen Meadows

All but invisible wood sets off the very ripe nose of spiced plum and black raspberry along with hints of violet, earth and anise. The slightly bigger and richer medium-bodied flavors possess a seductive mouthfeel before concluding in a palate coating and lightly mineral-inflected finish that is better balanced. 87-90 points

Tim Jackson MW

Caramel and cinnamon from oak, wrapped around a core of ripe, almost jammy raspberry. Rich and fruity, with quite firm, chalky tannins. A bit of alcohol at the finish, but overall, attractive. Quite Good Value. 15.5 points
