It is unusual these days, but Malhadinha Nova is a large and complex enterprise, consisting not just of wine farming but cattle, a stud and various tourism based facilities too. The estate is located in the Alentejo in Albernoa and the Soares family have rescued and extensively renovated the land, as well as constructing a cellar excavated into the hillside among the vines. Although altogether a fair sized business, it is a family business with all ages involved, whether at the sharp end, or in the case of the children, label design. They produce a large range of very high quality wines. They aren`t interested in being average, just in being excellent. (CW 05/08/14)
