There`s more to Gonazalez Byass than Sherry, though they are arguably the most famous and illustrious producer. They have wineries in Rioja, Penedes for Cava, Somontano and Rias Baixas in Spain as well as Chilean ventures. Gonzalez started the house in 1835 and was joined by his British importer Robert Byass twenty years later. The Byass family only withdrew from the firm in the 1990s, members of the Gonzales family are still involved. Just in Jerez it`s a large operation, owning or controlling over 1200 hectares and is Europe`s largest wine tourism operation. At all levels their range of Sherries show very high quality and Tio Pepe, named after the uncle who bankrolled the original investment, is one of the largest brands in the world. None of this would be possible or credible if quality were not extremely high across the board. (21/08/19)
