In October 2005, Giaconda Chardonnay was elevated to `Exceptional` status in Langton`s IVth classification - currently awarded to only 11 wines (including Grange) - and one of only two whites in the list. At the time of his Australian Gourmet Traveller/Qantas Winemaker of the Year award in 2003, he was thinking of downsizing his 2000-case-a-year production - because he couldn`t give the vineyards the time that his exacting standards demand! 2003 also brought a vintage that cemented his credentials as the quality-at-all-costs winemaker. He declassified all of his wine, bar the Cabernet, since he deemed it short of the standards that he expects of Giaconda.
