2019 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge (Pessac)

With both depth and lift, this is a deceptively fine wine that grows in stature as it progresses along the palate. Blackberry, plum and smoke notes dominate, with a slightly stony, mineral finish. Given the hot early season, Olivier Bernard expected his 2019 to be bigger and warmer, but the relatively cool August shows through; it is defined by its fresh, lifting acidity. Beautiful finesse; it is so well-balanced that at first one doesn`t notice how good it is, but the finish has the depth and grandeur of a wine with a long and distinguished life ahead. Wonderful. 2019 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge (Pessac)

The 2019 Domaine de Chevalier remains a little reticent on the nose at first and takes time to unfurl in the glass (often a good sign, in my book), revealing black fruit, crushed rock, undergrowth and just a touch of brine, perhaps less than in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied, poised and harmonious, with fine-grained tannins, wonderful mineralité and a gentle build toward the saline finish. It gains weight and cohesion with aeration. A noble Domaine de Chevalier that will age with style. 95 points
