Pinot Noir from Alsace has changed significantly over the past decade, as seasons have become consistently warmer. Wines which could be quite forgettable and slightly thin in all but the warmest vintages are increasingly consistent; indeed, as Burgundy Pinot Noir has become ever more fruit-forward and full-bodied, the Pinot Noir wines of Alsace have taken their place as lean, savoury wines which will unfurl after years of ageing. Boxler have leaned into this style to produce a dark-fruited Pinot Noir with notes of cranberry and black cherry fruit and forest floor complexity on a crisp palate. An old-school wine from an excellent producer, worth seeking out. (JH 21/04/22)
