Ken and Akiko Freeman 2011
We've had these lovely bottlings for years now and they are a stalwart of our consistently high quality range of North American wines. The Freemans set up their winery as an homage to Burgundy and not to jam making, which seems to be the motivation of many of their peers. The vines have a long growing season, often harvested a month after the Cote de Nuits at optimum, not over-ripeness. They sit high up, north of San Francisco and are often bathed in fog that keeps the grapes beautiful cool and structured and the fruit complex. Come and try for yourself.
Of the 2011 vintage they say 'The 2011 season was an incredibly difficult year for all of the Pinot Noir growers Freeman works with. From spring frosts, to late spring rains, to a freezing cold summer similar to 2010, to a cool September with early rains, everything pointed to a tiny crop of less than ideally ripe fruit. However, because of the small amount of fruit on the vines in 2011, it did ripen fully in spite of all the climatic challenges. We’re very happy with the 2011 harvest at Freeman.'
We're delighted with the wines too and we are sure you will be.
