Like the Medoc, Petit-Village`s soils are stony and gravel-dominated and the Cabernets together make up 25% of the blend. But then, with neighbours like Cheval Blanc, Figeac and Vieux Chateau Certan, that is not a surprise. So, of all Pomerols, this is one to age. The Cabernet Sauvignon element in particular - at 17% - gives the wine structure and stops it becoming too creamy and lush.

Neal Martin
The 2009 Petit Village shows a little oxidation on the nose, though not as acute as some other Right Bank wines. There is a strong medicinal/menthol scent with aeration. The palate is better on the entry with good grip, plenty of mint-tinged black fruit. It feels a little hard on the finish. This ought to be better. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting. 88 points evident. Ageing potential. Drink 2018-2035. 17.5 points
