We originally planned to cover the Rhone in a single tasting, but the sheer variety of wines available made it nearly impossible to narrow down the selection, and so we have broken the Rhone Valley up into two parts. This tasting will focus on the primary grapes and styles of the southern Rhone, expressed via its two most famous appellations, Gigondas and Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and its two most important (red) varieties, Grenache and Mourvedre.
This tasting is the sixth and final in our France vs. the World series, in which the wine regions of France take on their counterparts other parts of the world. Each flight will be presented blind, to reduce the effects of favouritism. Join us to see if the wines of the southern end of the Rhone Valley can stand up to some of the best the rest of the world has to offer...
