Even in the years when it is made, vintage Champagne is a small percentage of total production - so it's relatively insignificant in the great scheme of things. But vintage Champagne shows just how expressive the wine can be and frequently represents the best value from any given producer. In the past, we have learnt much from our comparative tastings of vintage Champagne. (Is it only four years ago that we took on the Pol Roger range after being inspired - not too strong a word - by their vintage?)

So this is a chance for the cellarmasters to shine. How will the wines we already stock compare with those we don't? Will the hierarchy be maintained or will unknown upstarts prove to be your favourite? All wines are the current release so vintage, too, will play its part.

This is a sitdown event to be tutored by Colin Wills, our educator. To shake things up, we might also sling in a ringer, to be served blind. /CW
