2023 Tawse Mazis-Chambertin

Vignes de la Famille Tawse
Mazis-Chambertin sits at the north end of the great strip of grand crus, abutting the village. The tightly-wound bouquet suggests dark raspberry, orange and spice. In the mouth it seems gentle at first, till a flash of power kicks in towards the finish. It is all underlaid by a very satisfying sense of sapidity. There is also an element of wild herb on the finish, probably from the stems (12% whole bunch used in this cuvee). Potent but elegantly balanced wine, this needs some time in the cellar to unwind. It clocks in at a very moderate 12.9% alcohol. (NT 23/12/24)

Neal Martin

The 2023 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, which includes 12% whole bunch, has a very finely poised bouquet that`s floral, cohesive and complex in style. The palate is medium-bodied and fleshier than the Mazoyeres, with supple tannins and crushed stone notes permeating the red fruit tones. It`s not powerful but full of finesse. This is excellent. 94-96 points

15% whole bunch vinification, 70% new wood. More purple than ruby. The new wood is quite prominent but it marries well with the fruit. This wine has an exquisite fruit up front, but just a little earthier behind, it is not quite in place today. There is a great deal going on here, so it certainly should come round. There could yet prove to be more of an upside than my current rating. 93-96 points
