Tamlyn Currin
From a single vineyard of old bush vines planted in 1986 on decomposed shale. Low yielding. Whole-bunch press, minimal settling, no sulphites added (until bottling). It goes into old barrels and stays on gross lees for six months, then it gets racked and blended and put back into the same barrels where it ages on fine lees for another four or five months. Greengage and this wonderful Alphonso mango fruit fill the glass and fill the mouth, but the spine of the wine is stony and the overall impression is not tropical. Beautiful traces of sweet herbs, angelica and fennel through the lushness of the fruit. It vibrates with energy. Silky finish. 17 points

The 2021 Chapter Four is old bush vine Sauvignon Blanc planted in 1987 that is matured in used barrel for 10 months. It has a light apple blossom and kiwi fruit scented bouquet, just a touch of wild nettle. The palate is medium-bodied with a pithy entry, fresh acidity with Granny Smith apple and gooseberry towards the finish. Recommended. 90 points
