The 2014 Arlaud 1er cru Ruchots was very reduced when we tasted it. It shows darker fruit than many of the Arlaud wines, is clearly very ripe, has great depth and still shares those very fine tannins. (CW 5/11/15)

Some lamb chops call for a refined style of Burgundy, so I was intrigued to try out Domaine Arlaud’s Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru Ruchots 2014. Incidentally, though not by any means the first domaine to practice biodynamics, I believe that Domaine Arlaud may be the first to be certified both as organic and also with Biodyvin as biodynamic. Though I am a fan of these ideas, what matters of course is how the wine tastes. The colour is a little bit darker than I expected from this relatively refined vintage. The bouquet had not yet fully evolved, perhaps some dark raspberry notes, but it is playing a waiting game. The palate is perfectly poised with a sense of crisp precision, but the profile of darker cherry fruit suggests that Cyprien Arlaud waited for ripeness in a year when some panicked because of the drosophile induced rot. This is clean and clear cut, but sitting back on its haunches. If I had another bottle, I would wait a while. 92 points
