Portugal has many unique grape varieties and some singular approaches to wine production. Some of the later were foisted onto it by foreigners and some by discovery and gradual development. Today's tasting shows not only the best of Portugal, but also some of the idiosyncratic, with not only starry wines but storied producers.
Our host is busy and versatile Danny Cameron. He is a leading authority on fortified wines, has more than a passing interest in English sparkling and has forgotten more about Portugal than I'll ever know. He is businessman, student of wine and enthusiast. As is only appropriate for a man with so many strings to his bow, four of Danny's hobbies are archery.
We would be delighted to welcome you to taste today's Portuguese selection. Danny will be here between 12 and 2pm but after that you must make do with me. /CW
