The 2009 REDOMA Tinto, is a typical old vines (60-120 years) Douro blend from north facing vineyards, aged in a mixture of large and small French oak barrels for 21 months. Like most of Niepoort`s reds this issue, this seems surprisingly crisp this year, hardly seeming like a 2009 at all. It follows the Vertente model, while adding a little intensity and a better finish but keeping a primary and graceful feel to it. It does have some tartness, along with refined and well integrated tannins. Clean and grapey, it is also refreshing and sunny. Considering how much I`ve been liking Redoma of late, this seems a step short-still quite nice, but not as distinguished as some recent vintages. After holding it open for awhile, I did get some sense it might pull itself together and I leaned up a bit, but it definitely needs to show a bit more in the cellar. Give it a couple of years to settle down, even if seems very approachable. There were 18,500 bottles produced. Drink now-2020. 90 points
