The 2024 Graft is pure Syrah from the Karabib Vineyard in Polkadraai, 100% whole bunch fermented, with 87% aged in concrete and the rest in used French barriques. Yet another quite arresting and complex nose: black fruit, graphite and light pressed violet/peony scents unfurl discreetly in the glass. The palate is beautifully balanced with fine tannins, perfectly judged acidity, extraordinarily mineral-driven, with a tingle of spice on the crystalline finish. Woo-hah (as Al Pacino said in ‘Scent of a Woman`). 98 points

Graft is now part of the Cape`s Syrah elite, sourced from a parcel on the Karibib farm that also supplies Jean Smit and Reenen Borman. Aged in concrete and 15% second-fill barrels, it`s a dense, compact, layered red of great complexity and weight, with classic Polkadraai Hills perfume and texture, grippy, age-worthy tannins, flavours of tapenade and blackberry and a granitic finish. 97 points
