Sierra de Gredos
West of Madrid, the Gredos mountains are a source of fabulous, high altitude, high energy Garnacha. Peninsula Viticultores specialise in rescuing local vineyards at risk of being abandoned, and parley these into a set of fine, terroir-transparent wines. This is all cranberry and perfume. It’s a versatile food wine with a broad palate for potential matches, and it can shrug off a bit of spice; I paired it very successfully with roast aubergine and ragu. (NT 21/09/24)
