Neal Martin
The 2019 Divergent is a more or less equal blend of Carignan, Cinsault and Cabernet Sauvignon from Wellington, Helderberg and Polkadraai respectively, matured in used 225-litre barrels. This feels a little muted on the nose at first, tertiary red fruit, a little leather and allspice, not quite gelling together at the moment. The palate is more promising and shows the cohesion that is currently missing on the nose, with a lovely grainy texture, like the Cabernet Franc. It`s a little savoury on the finish with black pepper and sage lingering on the aftertaste. Just give it a couple of years for the nose to evolve. 90+ points
