The 2019 Echezeaux Grand Cru comes from the Les Treux lieu-dit and will undergo 20 months in new oak. The wood dominates the nose at the moment, although there seems to be sufficient black cherry and crushed strawberry fruit behind it. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent, smooth tannins, the new oak nicely integrated. It will require 4–5 years in bottle but I think this could turn out nicely. 90-92 points

100% new wood. Very dense deep purple. The nose is all about the oak at the moment, with a significant weight of fruit coming up instead on the palate. Luxury dark raspberries, this is a full on intensely fruity Echezeaux, not one of the lacy delicate ones. Fine rich long finish. 92-95 points

An even spicier nose consists of ripe poached plum, violet, jasmine tea and sandalwood scents. There is exceptionally good richness to the concentrated, serious and muscular flavors that evidence focused power on the robust and built-to-age but not really austere finale. This beauty should age extremely well yet be approachable after 7 to 8 years. 92-94 points

Etienne Julien`s 2019 Echezeaux Grand Cru is showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with notes of cherries, plums, woodsmoke, exotic spices, espresso roast and forest floor. Full-bodied, layered and complete, it`s ample and textural, with fine concentration, velvety tannins and lively acids. This is a flamboyant but controlled Echezeaux that`s well worth seeking out. 94+ points
