The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin La Perriere 1er Cru has a perfumed, floral bouquet with iris and violet petals infusing the mainly black fruit, perhaps a touch more backward and opaque compared to the preceding `Mes Cinq Terroirs`. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, the flesh of this La Perriere shading the backbone behind it. To quibble, it just needs a little more precision on the finish, but the weight of this La Perriere is impressive and augurs for long-term cellaring if you wish. Drink 2023-2040. 91-93 points

Two plots below Mazy-Chambertin, aged 45 and 70 years old. Good earth here above the rock, Arnaud tells me, along with the fact that has learnt to pick this earlier now. Dense purple, some power on the nose, not yet all giving, much more in red fruit, but with good length. Not quite the knock out blow of the 2018, but nonetheless very fine. 91-94 points
