Bodegas Vinatigo specialise in Canary Island indigenous varieties, all grown on ungrafted rootstock; the advantage of the very volcanic soils are that the nasty phylloxera bug, which devastated wine production across most of the world, never got a toehold here. This is a pale ruby coloured wine, with a transparent, faded rim. The bouquet has bright red fruits (raspberry, cranberry) together with a smoky, medicinal note. Grippy and acidic, lifted, intense - and very much the epitome of the smoky, mineral, volcanic red. If you want something dark and rich, this is not for you; if you want something nervy and volcanic, search no more. For the ampelographical nerds among you, Negramoll is the same as Madiera`s Tinta Negra, aka Tinta Negra Mole. (NT 08/07/20)
