Julia Harding
They are members of Salvo Foti`s I Vigneri association. Produced on the windy island of Lipari on sandy, volcanic, deep fertile soils at 350 m. Densely planted bush vines (9,000/ha). Fermentation takes place in barrique with at least 10 days of maceration, then the wine is racked and transferred in 500-litre barrels where malolactic fermentation takes place. Aged one year in barrel. 2,000 hand-numbers bottles produced. Light cherry red. Tangy dark-red fruit, wild like cranberry and wild strawberries – ie avoiding any unwanted sweetness – and an attractive dusty/rocky overlay. Wonderfully juicy and fresh with super-fine silky tannins. Light and lively but persistent and so refreshing, with just a hint of capsicum to increase that freshness. Mouth-wateringly delicious finish. 16.5 points
