A superbly elegant, almost delicate expression of Barbera - initially a little tight and metallic, it unfurls quickly to reveal complex red cherry and cranberry fruit, quite reminscent of Nebbiolo, resinous and dusty on the finish. An excellent pairing for a wide variety of rich dishes from chicken to beef, this is a classic example of how a top winemaker, working with great terroir, can produce exceptional wines from even the most underrated of grape varieties. The 2015 Barbera d`Alba is a very attractive wine, especially for readers looking for a red that is starting to show signs of tertiary complexity. Sweet red cherry, cedar, pine, dried leaves and tobacco give this mid-weight, translucent Barbera tons of complexity and appeal. There is a bit of reduction, so a little advance aeration is a good idea. 92 points
