Jean-Louis Chave makes arguably the finest Hermitage under his first label and grows and vinifies the fruit for this too. He labels it under his negociant persona but this has all the hallmarks of the great man, except, except that it drinks remarkably well now, when most of the wines from the hill need at least fourteen years. It is still cool climate Syrah and it still has the potential (and structure) to age, but it is much more approachable after a decant than you might think. (CW 12/01/12)
