Heavy 50-cl bottle. Light to mid garnet with brick at the rim but more red than I expected. Complex, sweet and spicy aroma, a little bit stemmy/herbal, even minty, but also mature red fruits, just on the cusp of more tertiary leathery flavours. On the palate, moreish and mouth-watering, with leathery and spiced red fruits, almost sour flavours of wild berries and yet the sweetness of wild strawberries. It`s an oxidative style but I don`t think it lacks fruit. The tannins are dry but they are resolved. A distinctive style with real persistence but probably a wine you will love or hate. Mature but still full of life. Not for those who like more obvious fruit. Remarkably for a mature wine, it was even better the day after opening, with more sweetness of fruit and flesh on the mid palate. Special but not recommended unless you like mature, perhaps slightly old-fashioned, wines. 17 points
