Free Friday Tasting - Inama with Phil 'Bomber' Harris

Friday, 21 November 2014 - 12:00pm to 6:30pm

Free Friday tasting of Stefano Inama's winesWines of depth and minerality

In a remarkable act of vision and daring, Giuseppe Inama founded this estate in the 1960s, when interest in fine Italian white wines was not high. But he was convinced by the quality of the volcanic soils on Monte Foscarino, high up behind the town of Soave and began to grow not just Garganega but some remarkable Sauvignon Blanc.

His son Stefano took over completely in the early nineties. The secret of the top Soave terroirs is that volcanic soil, while the secret of Garganega is being a real farmer. Like the Carmenere from the Colli Berici, it's no good being a consultant and applying book-learning to these grape varieties, you have to live with them and learn how they behave in the real world.

We've got three of the brilliant whites from the best vintage I've tasted and perhaps the most representative red on tasting today. None is expensive and all very worthwhile. To talk you through them, we welcome back one of the most charming and erudite men of the English wine trade and one who has been intimately involved with the family estate for years. Philip 'Bomber' Harris returns to present these little jewels. /CW
