Colgin Cellars

0

For thirty years, Colgin Cellars have been at the forefront of the Napa scene, making exquisitely handcrafted single vineyard wines as much about finesse and terroir as power and expression. Anne Colgin was driven to begin Colgin by a love of the land and a reverence for fine wine. She started by sourcing fruit, and gradually assembled some exceptional hillside sites. Over time the reputation of Colgin burgeoned.

IX Estate is the Colgin home vineyard. High on Pritchard Hill, overlooking Lake Hennessy, it is an east-facing site that captures the morning sun. It is carved from an ancient lava flow, and its eight hectares of well-draining clays and igneous rock soils are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Syrah. The IX Estate name comes from the vineyard address. 9 Long Ranch Road. Colgin’s oldest, smallest site is Tychson Hill, just north of St. Helena. In the 19th century it was owned by Josephine Tychson, the first woman to build a winery in Napa. It was torn up during Prohibition, rediscovered by Colgin in the 1990s, and planted with heritage clones of Cabernet Sauvginon. (NT 29/08/23)
