Founded in 1985 by David Hohnen, who owned much garlanded Cape Mentelle in Margaret River, both companies eventually found their way into the cosy embrace of LVMH, purveyor of luxury goods to the oligarchy and the hopelessly handbag obsessed. A farmer rather than a corporate drone, Hohnen evidently found this intolerable as he left shortly thereafter. Cloudy Bay is a large producer of still and sparkling wine with extensive holdings in Marlborough and still maintain their fantastic reputation for quality. (CW 8/07/10)
