This month, we're reworking a tired idea - that old wine merchant's stand-by, the mixed case. Starting today, we're offering four different mixed cases per month. The £150 case and the £300 case are compilations of what we feel to be the best wines for the money, selected to reflect seasonality, double-discounted* and delivered FOC within London (don't worry if you're outside the M25, we'll be able to work something out). The third case is one made up of our current Staff Selections - a compendium of what we're drinking right now, wines we stand behind and will defend to the last breath should you disagree with us. The fourth case will be rotating monthly and is designed as a ready-made crash course introduction to a region, style or perhaps some other, more creative unifying factor. Who knows. We're a playful lot.
This month's featured mixed case is a preamble into the mystifying and thrilling spiritual home of Syrah, the Northern Rhone, aka The Dirty North. You'll find nearly all serious sites represented and a good sample of the crazy cast of characters that make wine there, from the tinily domained Pierre Benetiere to the iconic Jean-Louis Chave to the wild-eyed Thierry Allemand. Most wines can be drunk now and all the reds will cellar magnificently. And, with Valentine's Day just around the corner, what more rightful heir to the pubescent love-declaratory mix tape, than the grown-up-but-still-wild-and-crazy-about-you-after-all-these-years mixed case. Geddit?
All mixed cases are discounted even more than our standard mixed cases and will be delivered free of charge within London (don't worry if you're outside the M25, we'll be able to work something out).
As an added bonus, Uncorked's in-house Wine Educator, Mr Colin Wills, will be presenting a short (and un-stuffy) talk, free of charge, about the northern Rhone on this evening, 9 February, at 6pm as we taste a couple of the wines from the case. Come and taste, learning optional. /CC
