2010 Zind Humbrecht offer & tutored tasting

5 Jul 2012

Clos St-UrbainPre-shipment offer & tasting next Wednesday at our Bishopsgate shop tutored by Olivier Humbrecht

2010 is a magnificent vintage in Alsace but only for those whose vines were able to take advantage of the growing season. After a very cold and nicely wet winter, an early spring with a cool period, a hot July, a wet August and an exceptional autumn, Olivier Humbrecht pulled in a tiny but immensely high quality harvest characterised by fine acidity and very pure fruit.

The conditions didn't favour any particular grape variety but did favour the production of dry wines - since the grapes were physiologically ripe earlier than normal - as well as vendanges tardives - thanks to that fine autumn. Given the extremes of weather, Olivier says the success of the harvest owes much to his bio-dynamic system.

On Wednesday evening we welcome Olivier to the shop. He will expound on the qualities of the vintage much better than me - he'll have more time and he'll illustrate his points with a wide range of samples from the vintage and his different varieties. As one of our most intelligent and erudite winemakers he has built up quite a fan club over the years and it's a pleasure to have the chance to meet again a French vigneron with better English than what mine is. So for a sneak preview of the joys of some of the freshest and most joyful wines on the planet, reply to book a seat immediately! /CW
