Montalcino

'The 2010 vintage is iconic for Montalcino and the reason is, simply put, it shows the amazing versatility of the Sangiovese grape with a level of clarity that I have never encountered.' - Monica Larner, erobertparker.com, Feb 2015

'This is a vintage in which Sangiovese is allowed to shine.' - Walter Speller, jancisrobinson.com, Feb 2015

'The 2010 vintage is a new benchmark for Tuscany's icon wine, producing reds with wonderful intensity, structure, and energy. I find the depth of fruit, flavor and savory, almost mineral undertone of the wines spellbinding.' - James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Jan 2015

When we began to offer the 2010 Brunello wines hardly any critics had spoken about their qualities. But having tasted and drunk so many of the 2010 Rosso di Montalcino over the last few years we knew that we were looking at a very special vintage. It was no secret among the trade. You've clearly agreed with the verdict. Sales have been very good as entirely justified excitement about the wines has spread. We've even tasted most of our offering now and nothing has disappointed. Some wines have sold out but we still have stocks of some of our favourites: Sesti, Salicutti, La Serena and if you like magnums, even Lisini.

Since one of the joys of the 2010 vintage is the sheer quality and personality of Sangiovese, we've decided to show off four brilliant examples from around the region of Tuscany. Therefore today's tasting comprises some favourites from the Montalcino hill, from Chianti and from the coast. /CW
