The Combe d’Orveau sits in a neat little triangle between Chambolle, Vosne and Vougeot, where the slope begins to turn away into the combe. A section of the vineyard is too far ‘round the bend’ to be classified as more than village Chambolle, but Romain’s vines are very much in the premier cru section abutting Les Petits Musigny. This is a real step up in the range; it is immediately evident in the more intense perfume that mingles plum, cherry, rose petal and tobacco. Tannins are finely-grained and smooth. The acidity is present but not heavily marked, but there is a strong sense of mineral sapidity on the aftertaste. Lovely. (NT 09/12/24)
