Alto Piemonte
Small batch Nebbiolo from a tiny producer with only 3 hectares of vineyards. Gattinara, located in northeast Piedmont, predates the more famous Langhe appellations of Barolo and Barbaresco, but is often overlooked – and so offers superb value for money. This has spent 12 months in concrete vats followed by 36 months in large oak barrels. Grippy and reticent, but it unfolds in the decanter to reveal wild cherries and red flowers, finishing with savoury spice. This is a superb candidate for long-term ageing. (AB 20/06/2024)
