The 2012 Meandro do Vale Meão is a blend of 38% Touriga Nacional, 30% Touriga Franca, 20% Tinta Roriz and some dollops of others, sourced from vines averaging 30 years in age. It was aged in a mixture of second and third year French oak for 12 months. This seems like a fairly normal Meandro. It doesn`t show a lot of depth, but it is rarely an extremely concentrated wine. On the other hand, it is built to age, with notable tannins to support the juicy and very tasty fruit. It is focused and tightly wound. It fleshes out a bit in the glass as it goes along. This actually needs a bit of time to calm down. When it does, it should be a graceful Meandro with just enough of everything. It lacks little and becomes increasingly impressive with air. Just don`t dive in too soon. This is, simply put, one of Douro`s finest estates. They don`t do much wrong. In good vintages, they make fine wine. In great vintages, they make great wine. 90 points
