Leoville-Barton and Moss Wood

cost per seat is £75

This is a comparison that should appeal to many here as Leoville-Barton is a very popular Chateau with our customers and Anthony a tremendous chap who kindly hosted an excellent tasting here himself a few years ago. Even as he begins to withdraw somewhat from day to day running of affairs, you have an opportunity to taste through a selection of vintages, and even better, to compare them with a similar set from lauded Western Australian producer Moss Wood.

There are discrepancies in their respective historiesof course. Leoville-Barton is a part of the original giant and grand Leoville estate, which was based around a large gravel 'croupe' in the early seventeenth century, while Moss Wood was first planted out in 1969. Moss Wood is firmly established as arguably the best producer in Margaret River. The estates have some things in common, for instance both are heavily influenced by their proximity to large bodies of water, and there are of course many differences.

The vintages that we will taste on this evening are as follows:

Leoville Barton  1990 / 1996 / 2001 / 2002 / 2008

Moss Wood  1994 / 1994 Special Reserve / 1999 / 2001 / 2007
