Haut-Bergey is an ancient property resurrected by Sylviane Garcin-Cathiard, the sister of Daniel Cathiard of Smith-Haut-Lafitte, who bought the estate in 1991. Having initially relied heavily on consultants Michel Rolland and Christophe Ollivier, since 2001 winemaking has been entrusted to Veronique Sancet and the team has grown steadily in confidence. Low yields - around 30 hl/ha for the red - show in the finished wine. the 2009 is beautifully concentrated, dark in colour, earthy but fresh with lovely dusty tannins. We liked it a lot.

The 2009 Haut-Bergey has a lovely bouquet with raspberry, cranberry, rose petal and light forest floor aromas, opening beautifully in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well judged acidity, and smooth in texture although, it lacks some density and grip on the finish. Enjoy now and over the next 6 to 8 years.
