There are as many ideals in vineyard terroirs as any category of life and the Wachau is pretty close to ideal. With its slopes, its river (Danube) and ever changing air currents, its continental climate with big diurnal temperature swings, it can hardly fail to produce wines with freshness and depth. It is no coincidence that the region is filled with many of Austria`s best producers. (CW 23/01/12)
