Dark and earthy, full-bodied and herbal, like a stroll through the garrigue, the Le Soula rouge is a remarkable wine from Roussillon. It was born when winemaker Gerard Gauby discovered an abandoned parcel of vines and teamed up with English importer Mark Walford to bring them back to life. Mainly made from the fruit of 80 year-old Carignan vines, rounded out by herbal Grenache and a touch of Syrah fire and pepper, this bottle properly captures the spirit of the Agly Valley on the old pilgrim route to Spain.
