Bourbon HH then Sherry HH
At the confluence of the Spey and Fiddich rivers, Craigellachie (and its neighbour Macallan) sit at the beating heart of Speyside. Like many distilleries, Craigellachie is a product of the 19th century whisky boom, but unlike many it survived the ensuing bust. Since then it has kept a relatively low profile, but produces a very fine spirit. This bottling has passed from a bourbon hogshead to a sherry hogshead and is full, rich, sweet and remarkably rounded. Just when you think you’ve nailed all the nut, fruit and caramel notes you take another sniff and find it’s evolving a touch of exotic spice. Delightful, this will keep you coming back for more.
