Wines from Portugal and operatic maestro Charles Metcalfe will be sharing the stage this Friday afternoon at Uncorked.

We've been following Portuguese wines for ages - at least since our first trip there in 1989. Of all the countries we visit, Portugal has done most to improve quality while retaining the character of its wines and native grape varieties. Our Portuguese selection is often larger than our Spanish one.

Charles Metcalfe's CV is long and glorious, including surviving 12 years as Richard and Judy's wine host, authoring much learned and literate work on wine and presenting in a style as entertaining as it is educational. Charles has long immersed himself in Portuguese wine and food culture and is a respected authority in and on the country. We are very pleased to welcome him to Uncorked again - he first attended a tasting here half a dozen years ago. Come and meet Charles this Friday: he will be pouring and talking (or maybe singing) about six of our Portuguese favourites from 1-2pm and then 5-7.
