Freshly back from our whistlestop tour of our Rhône valley producers and we have returned, not just with a boot full of wine, but with a strong impression of how they view the 2010s. "Even the press liked them," said an only slightly world-weary André Brunel at Les Cailloux, though with a grin. Laurence Féraud at Pégau was very happy too and she made the point we heard over again: anyway, we've sold it all, it was a very small crop. Vincent Paris was more philosophical still. It was a great and important vintage, he said: it's what nature gave us.
Sorrel was another of many who repeated that it was a great vintage and it is completely sold out, and he gave us a quick taste of a couple of his remarkable cuvées. We also got the chance to taste a wonderful 2001 Gréal of his. They're profound wines.
We're back a bit late - only 24 hours - and if anyone needs details of an incredibly helpful VW/Audi garage in Vienne (ask for Laurent) or hotel recommendations, ping Colin a line. /CW
