Gaja Ca'Marcanda free tasting from midday at our Bishopsgate shop
With Gaia Gaja between 12 & 1pm
Although Angelo Gaja gained fame if not notoriety in Piemonte for both his Barbareschi and his iconoclasm, it is the Gaja family's Bolgheri wines that we are showcasing today. Gaja expanded into Tuscany as an outlet for his considerable creative energy, away from the restrictive atmosphere of Piedmont and allowing more freedom and new challenges in the form of different grape varieties and terroirs. Merlot thrives around these parts and this range of wines reflect Gaja's meticulous attention to detail. The entry-level Promis, best enjoyed young, gives a great impression of what this family is all about. The more structured Magari is a classic, polished Super-Tuscan that sells for peanuts compared to some of its peers. The Camarcanda is all about supple texture, fruit and elegance, and stands as a testament to Bolgheri's chumminess with Bordeaux.
Between us we have tasted these wines multiple times at the estate and in London and have been consistently impressed. Now it's your turn to judge. The wines will be on tasting today from midday and in the company of Angelo's daughter and top ambassador Gaia Gaja (so good they named her twice) for an hour between 12 and 1pm. We're sure you'll be impressed, but as always, come and taste! /CW
