Freeman mixed case offer: 2018, ‘a winemaker’s dream’

15 Mar 2022

And Freeman on tasting from noon tomorrow in our Bishopsgate shop!

2018 was 'a winemaker's dream', says Akiko Freeman. All across California, conditions were ideal for top quality winemaking. Even very good vintages usually have, say, one month in spring that is too cold (and hence a small crop) or perhaps a too-hot August that forces a hasty harvest. But in 2018, the season was seamless; the Freemans were blessed by that rare combination of a large, healthy crop and the highest quality fruit. As Ken Freeman says: 'This was the best year we've seen in our 17 vintages at Freeman.'

The Freemans have always believed that California can produce wines every bit as complex and compelling as those of Burgundy. Sunshine, morning fogs and the afternoon winds off the Pacific all play their part in shaping an intense, refined set of wines from the coolest parts of the Russian River Valley and the extreme Sonoma Coast.

Ken and Akiko began by sourcing fruit from top growers up and down the valley, and their Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley bottlings are often the most generous and giving of the range when the wines are young. But with time, the Freemans' estate vineyards Gloria (beautifully ringed by redwoods) and Yu-Ki (high and exposed to all of the Pacific Ocean's mood swings) have come of age and offer wines of intense complexity. To help you get to grips with the Freeman range, we have put together a mixed case of 6 of the Freeman's 2018s for only £250, including free delivery. And not only that! Tastings have finally returned to Uncorked. Inaugurating our free 'Thirsty Thursday' tastings we will have four of the Freeman wines on tasting tomorrow in our Bishopsgate store between noon and 5:30. /NT
