Creative tension: site, season and Sangiovese
Moderately saturated red. Musky nose combines sour red berries, tobacco, marzipan, and mint. Boasts outstanding inner-mouth perfume and focus on the palate, with lovely energy and lift to the mineral flavors of sweet cherry and spices. Closes silky and long, with polished tannins (you really cannot tell this has been aged almost four years in oak). Outstanding Brunello. - 94+ points, Ian d'Agata, vinous.com

We've worked with the Sesti family for years now and most of us have visited at least once. Tasting their wines over the last decade and a half or so has seen a real uplift in quality. The 2015, though very limited in quantity, is arguably the most complete Sesti Brunello I have tasted. It has ripeness and depth, even richness, but great acidity and balance. Already complex, it has real energy from their quasi-biodynamic regime and the savoury Sangiovese fruit is little short of gorgeous.
'When you farm as we do you've got what nature gives you, not always what you want.' So said Elisa Sesti to me when I tasted her 2015 Brunello earlier this year. The 2015 tastes effortlessly delicious and everyone is talking about how good the harvest quality was. But the level of work to get there was onerous.
Like all the Sesti family Elisa is friendly and welcoming with a core of steel, focus and determination and the strength to overcome any obstacle. The family is imbued with a courageous ethic of doing what's right, whatever the cost; and the ability to plunge into adventure. And their creativity in both arts and science is a strong part of who they are. They make light of their achievements on every level and have plenty of assurance, but always tempered by empathy and humility; never arrogance. Their 2015 Brunello embodies all these qualities and is an essential part of your cellar. /CW
