Old friends and new adventures

Like Brexit, the negotiations around the 2015 Burgundies are, to say the least, unprecedented. Never in our 23 years have we had a combination of such enormous demand combined with such restricted stock availability. We ought by now to be on our final round-up email and not our second offer. So apologies to all who feel they have missed out so far.

C'est Bourgogne; c'est famously compliqué, and none more so than in this en primeur campaign, so we are delighted to bring you wines from some of our favourite producers. Arnaud Mortet took full advantage of the potential for ripeness in 2015 and further polished these impressive reds with judicious application of some very expensive oak. Even Arnaud's barrels are on allocation.

Cyprien Arlaud is a scholar-vigneron with a razor sharp knowledge of his vines and an equally finely honed instinct in the cellar. The vast amount of work he and his sister do in the vineyards combined with very light touch cellar work make everything taste effortless. He managed to make some decent quantities of super wines and even expanded the portfolio. If you want affordable, text-book Vosne with soul then look no further than his aux Reas.

The Seysses family have also put in a sterling effort. You'll remember that the domaine wines are released later in the year, but the Fils et Pere trio from carefully supervised growers offer much in their whole bunch idiom.

And not least, one of the most up and coming domaines of the Cote de Nuits is Romain Taupenot's Taupenot-Merme. This is a stellar range which showed really well on a miserable, dank day last November in the tasting room - newly leather-furnished by look and smell - and tasted beautifully last week in the shop too. And this is a domaine where you can go from village to grand cru in steps of ever increasing wonder. This is another address where the quality of the man is reflected in the quality of the wines. /CW
