2012 Troplong Mondot; Parker scores

2012 Rauzan-Segla barrel sample

There are some striking results among the newly released Parker scores. Rauzan-Segla (93-95 points) is not only the highest rated Margaux of the vintage, but also outscores Lafite and Latour. Neighbouring Angludet receives the same mark (88-90) as Alter Ego, and they both outscore Pavillon Rouge.

In Pauillac, Batailley (89-91+) is on the up, outscoring Lynch-Bages. Bruno Borie will be dismayed that all his efforts at Ducru-Beaucaillou were only rewarded with the same mark (90-92) as Talbot, and a long way from challenging Leoville-Las Cases (93-95) at the top in St-Julien.

Overall, Parker feels that Pessac-Leognan and Pomerol were the strongest performers, as well as the dry whites. Olivier Bernard will be delighted that Domaine de Chevalier Rouge (92-95) beats Smith-Haut-Lafitte, matches Pape-Clement and is only a whisker behind Haut-Brion. The only potentially perfect wine is L'Eglise-Clinet, though we agree with him that neighbouring Feytit-Clinet (93-95) is outstanding, and should be one of the best buys in Pomerol. More predictably, there's a raft of high scores in St-Emilion, including one of our favourites, Canon (91-94), and today's Troplong Mondot.

Despite some high scores, Parker sounds a very strong note of caution to Bordeaux proprietors to reduce prices if they want their wines to sell en primeur. /AR
