2012 Rauzan-Segla, Mouton, Ormes de Pez

18 Apr 2013

John Kolasa of Rauzan-SeglaEn primeur offers early cashflow to the producer. In return, the consumer expects some sort of price advantage. Since the release of the 2008s, that advantage has been eroded but this morning we have some evidence of its return. Former Latour man John Kolasa has released Rauzan-Segla at a colossal discount to the 2011 - it was £300 for six last year. Millions of euros of investment by owners Chanel have reinforced Rauzan's position as the third best wine in Margaux, and it's one of our three dozen recommended buys in 2012.

Also on that shortlist is the Cazes family's Les Ormes de Pez, offering juicy dark fruits for drinking over the next five years.

More significantly, this morning also saw the release of Mouton at a price which makes it the cheapest first growth in the market. In an environment of low investment returns, 2012 might just offer some tempting opportunities for the speculative investor... /AR
