2011 Lynch-Bages, Issan, Lascombes

14 May 2012

This morning, a wine which, for many, is a must-buy in every vintage. The Cazes family regularly turn out wines which are not only superior to fellow fifth growths but, moreover, often rival super-seconds or even firsts. No other Pauillac has such a dedicated fan base as Lynch-Bages:

'Another strong effort produced under the administration of Jean-Charles Cazes (the son of Jean-Michel Cazes, who spent decades building Lynch Bages into one of the most popular Bordeaux estates), the 2011 boasts an inky/purple hue in addition to copious aromas of black currants, incense, forest floor and ink. Deep, rich, medium to full-bodied and layered with supple tannins as well as the vintage's freshness and vibrancy, it should age easily for 20 years. 90-93 points.' - Robert Parker, erobertparker.com

'Deep rich garnet hues. Lush, refine nose of fruit with hints of cream - increasingly detailed since Jean-Charles Cazes took over. Gorgeous entry with great presence leading to a fat and threaded palate. Lovely streak of cream running on the mouth-filling and layered mid-palate. Bursting with savours of cabernet sauvignon on finish. Polished and utterly delicious. 90 points.' - Jean-Marc Quarin, quarin.com
