Like many farming families, the Scavinos are absolutely besotted with their land and take complete responsibility for what happens on it. Take their new parcel from Monvigliero, which when they farmed but did not own went into the village Barolo. Now they have bought it and have absolute control it is allowed to show its personality. The straight Barolo has always been an admirable demonstration of what Enrico and his daughters can do, but it is the crus that really sing. They are incredibly expressive, truly terroir wines which give tremendous pleasure throughout their lives, though a measure of cellar time is beneficial. /CW
